Nerja is a municipality in the province of Malaga (Spain) and the easternmost town in the Axarquia.

It has a long history proved by the paintings found in the Nerja Cave, discovered in 1959, which could be the rock art images oldest history 42,000 years antigüedad.4 Under Muslim rule, the name was Narixa, meaning "abundant supply" and is the origin of the current name.

Nerja limits the north with the municipality of Competa on the east by the Granada town of Almuñécar, on the south by the Mediterranean Sea, and on the west by the municipalities of Torrox and Frigiliana.
It is located about 52 km east of the city of Málaga, and about 100 km from Granada and the ski resort of Sierra Nevada.
Nerja is located in the village of Maro.
